Funding for Energy Efficiency

We can help you keep your home warmer & fuel bills lower

Help to Heat for householders

Sava (previously known as National Energy Services) can help householders keep their home warmer and fuel bills lower by accessing grants from the Government’s ECO Help to Heat scheme.

Sava can provide:

  • Oil boiler upgrades
  • LPG boiler upgrades
  • Storage heater upgrades or installation
  • Loft insulation
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Room-in-roof insulation

Grant funding is available for all UK homes. How much funding is dependent on the size of your home and whether you, or someone you live with, receive certain qualifying benefits.

Do you qualify for a FREE1 energy saving oil boiler?

Under the Government backed Help to Heat scheme, you could be eligible for a new boiler at no cost to you. There are two criteria:

  • Your home has a faulty, inefficient or broken-down oil boiler AND
  • You, or someone living with you, is in receipt of one of the benefits listed

A new oil boiler will have an efficiency of 90%, compared with 60% to 70% for older systems2. Heating accounts for about 60%3 of what you spend a year on energy bills, so installing an energy efficient boiler makes a huge difference.

If you are not in receipt of qualifying benefits, you may still be eligible for free or heavily discounted insulation, depending on your home. Please call us.

Qualifying benefits

You should be eligible if you, or anyone living with you, receive one of these benefits:

• Pension Guarantee Credit
• Child or Working Tax Credit*
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income Support
• Universal Credit*

* If you are in receipt of a Tax Credit or Universal Credit, your grant eligibility will be subject to a maximum income amount which is based on how many adults and children live in your home.

Note 1: For most homes, we can install a new oil boiler at no cost to you. In smaller homes or where the existing heating system is in poor condition, the Help to Heat funding may not be enough to make the work completely free and a contribution may be required. However, we will confirm this with a free no obligation survey. Note 2: Source is the Government’s Products Characteristics Database, and SAP boiler default values. Is your money escaping through your roof and walls?

As much as up to 35% of all heat loss in your home is lost through the walls and up to 25% through the roof, so insulation will keep you warmer and reduce your energy bills too3.

These days, building regulations require loft insulation to be around 12 inches thick.  If your home was built before 1982 and has not subsequently received an insulation top up, then you should consider arranging a free insulation survey from Sava.

Most homes across Britain are eligible for a grant for insulation and in most cases the works are completely free.  But get in contact with us and we can confirm what the grant is likely to be based on your home and personal circumstances.

Steve and his elderly mother benefited from a new reliable energy saving Worcester Bosch boiler

Hilary and Steve live with Steve’s elderly mother in a 5-bed detached house built in the 1930s. Their boiler hadn’t been changed since they moved into the house 12 years ago and was temperamental and often needed to be manually reset.

Steve’s mother is on Pension Guarantee Credit and is therefore eligible for Help to Heat funding for a new boiler. After a technical survey, the installation was booked in for a few weeks later which took just a day.

Steve said: “It turned out that as well as being very unreliable our old Potterton boiler was just 65% efficient. The new boiler is 90% efficient and so by my reckoning that’s going to bring down my gas bill by a fair amount. But the main thing is that it’s so reliable – we know the house will now stay at a comfortable temperature and we can be guaranteed hot water in the morning!”

Jan and her family are now warmer and better off with cavity wall insulation

Jan lives with her husband and two teenage children in a 3-bed semi-detached house in Royston. Built in the 1970s, the house had cavity walls but no insulation. The Energy Performance Certificate for the house said that they could save £202 a year on their gas bill if the cavities were filled with insulation.

After Jan called NES, we confirmed that the walls could be installed free of charge. Within three weeks the cavities were insulated with non-combustible insulating material and Jan and her family could start spending the £202 they were saving on something more interesting!

Jan said: “The insulation only took a couple of hours to install and there was minimal disruption since all the work was done from the outside. With the price of energy only going up and up it’s crazy to spend money on heating the house only for so much of it to disappear through the walls! The 25-year warranty provides reassurance that we’re going to keep on making trouble free savings for years to come. The insulation has also improved my EPC rating for when we sell our house in the future. So it’s a great deal and I only wish I had done this years ago!”
