The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme introduced in 2013 to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.
ECO requires energy companies to put energy-saving improvements into homes. Each company has individual targets, based on their share of the domestic gas and electricity market, which must be met as a term of their licence.
Since its introduction, the scheme has been regularly amended. The latest changes occurred in 2017 and apply to measures installed from 1 April 2017.
