Sava has today announced the launch of its new vocational qualification. The Diploma in Building Surveying and Housing Management specifically addresses the lack of skilled technical staff required by modern housing providers.

Identifying building defects, creating improvements, keeping up to date with regulatory requirements and managing repairs and maintenance are just some of the crucial activities to providing decent affordable homes. Sava’s new qualification allows learners to study part time to acquire the knowledge and skills that are required to undertake a building surveying and housing management role within a housing provider.

Launching the qualification, Sava’s managing director Austin Baggett FRICS said:

“The quality of the homes we live in really does impact people’s lives and this new qualification will help housing providers provide their residents with better homes. The diploma is vocational, meaning that we provide trainees with the real practical knowledge and skills they need to do the job and create real value for their employer.
Being able to properly survey the housing assets within a stock and manage improvement programmes is essential if housing providers are to provide their residents with the basic requirements of being safe, warm and dry, as well provide homes that are desirable and have modern facilities. To date there’s been limited options for housing providers to train their teams specifically in the issues that are important to them, and that’s what we’ve addressed with this new Diploma”.

The qualification will cover: property law; managing and maintaining residential property assets; sustainability and social responsibility issues in housing management; health and safety and environmental facilities management procedures in housing management; conducting all aspects of work in an effective and professional manner; preparing for and undertaking professional property inspections for housing management; preparing reports and specifications; organising and delivering the maintenance and repair of residential property.

The first intake for the Diploma will be in Birmingham May 2019 with other training centres available in England and Wales subsequently. More information is available at www.sava.co.uk and Sava will be running regular webinars where housing providers and interested trainees can find out more.
