Understanding Cold Water and Drainage.

This qualification covers the basic understanding as to how cold water and drainage systems work in domestic buildings. Failure to understand the risks associated with cold water and drainage systems and to recognise bad practice can expose occupants and others to injury and can damage the property. 

Learning outcomes

• Understand the key components of a domestic cold water and drainage systems including the different types and the importance of correct installation.
• Understand the potential risks associated with domestic cold water and drainage systems with a particular focus on lack of repair/maintenance and poor workmanship and the health and safety requirements.
• Understand the legal requirements and regulations in place for cold water systems and drainage systems including the specific responsibilities of landlords and homeowners.
• Understand basic faults of a domestic cold water and drainage systems including identifying common visual faults and the consequences of failure of correct installation.
• Understand the role of the competent persons scheme.
