The RICS Matrics Surveyor Awards ceremony will take place on Friday 20th October at The Londoner, Leicester Square.
What was your background before becoming a surveyor?
I originally studied Chemical Physics at the University of Bristol and then went straight into property after I graduated. Like many people, I sort of fell into it!
Which qualification route did you take and why?
After completing my undergraduate degree, I went on to study for my Masters in Real Estate from the University College of Estate Management whilst working full time. This allowed me to begin my full Residential APC.
Meanwhile, I completed my MIRPM and MARLA qualifications, which enabled me to become AssocRICS whilst finishing my APC. I am now proud to have progressed to MRICS.
What has been the highlight of your surveying career so far and why?
Definitely winning Property Week’s 2023 Residential Trailblazer Rising Star this year.
What do you love most about being a surveyor?
Seeing all the different types of buildings and assets across the country and thinking about how you have to change strategy to get the most value out of the asset. It’s not the same for any one building, which keeps the job interesting!
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of joining the profession?
Enjoy it. There are many ways to become a surveyor so don’t think you have to do the same route as everyone else. We all have different requirements, but you can do it as long as you’re motivated.
How does it feel to be a finalist in the RICS Matrics Surveyor Awards 2023?
It’s an honour to be a finalist as chosen by the world’s leading real estate professional body. I’m excited to see what happens on the day.
