Today (26th September 2016), the NHER EPC accreditation scheme has transferred to Elmhurst Energy Systems.

The NHER scheme is a leading provider of software, accreditation and technical support in the EPC sector and covers England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It was established in 1990, was the first energy rating scheme in the UK, and was the forerunner to the introduction of EPCs in 2007.

A statement from Austin Baggett, MD of NES

Austin Baggett, Managing Director of NES, said:

After an internal review of all our various business activities, including the EPC market, we came to the conclusion that merging the NHER EPC scheme with Elmhurst’s scheme was in the best interests of NES and all of our customers. By combining the NHER and Elmhurst schemes together it will mean that all energy assessors will get an even better product and service range than either of us could have delivered separately.  Elmhurst are the perfect partner. They share the same values as us regarding quality and customer service.

Having been the pioneer for energy ratings in the UK, we have built up a very loyal and supportive customer base of energy assessors over the last 26 years and we very much thank you for your support and custom.

This is an important moment of reinvention where we can build our next chapter. We will now reshape and grow our remaining business activities – for instance, we will concentrate more fully on the opportunities that exist for us with our SAVA surveying business, services to social landlords, as well as expand the specialist software and energy efficiency consultancy and products we offer through NES.

A statement from Stephen O’Hara, Chairman of Elmhurst

Stephen O’Hara, Chairman of Elmhurst, said:

The team at Elmhurst is totally committed to provide NHER members with a smooth and painless transition which will result in a combined scheme that has significant benefits for all members with:

  • better products and services that takes the best from both schemes
  • more resources to develop great software
  • more staff to deliver the highest levels of technical service
  • better value
  • an unrivalled combined knowledge and intellect that reinforces our ‘Excellence in Energy Assessment’ position.

I look forward to welcoming NHER members to Elmhurst Energy.

What will NES do now:

NES will now focus its energies on a number of growing sectors that it is already deeply involved in:

  • The SAVA School of Surveying which provides a vital role in generating new talent to fulfil the drastic shortage of residential surveyors and valuers
  • The SAVA Home Condition Survey which provides essential information for new home buyers on the property they are considering purchasing
  • Optima, a business focused on creating better buildings for owners and occupants.  Its initial ambition is to become a major provider of energy efficient central heating systems, creating warmer and less costly homes for its customers
  • NES will continue to provide specialist services to social landlords encompassing all aspects of energy efficiency as well as software and consultancy for other parts of the energy efficiency sector, including energy companies.

The following NES customers are unaffected

The transfer of the NHER accreditation scheme does not affect the following customers of NES:

  • SAVA scheme for residential surveyors
  • SAVA School of Surveying learners
  • Users and integrators of AutoAssessor and AutoAssessorPRO software and associated services for social landlords
  • Consultancy
  • Users of DIYSAP and Home Energy Checker software
  • Users of ECO online software
  • Partners and customers of Optima Energy Limited

NES has written to all its NHER scheme customers informing them of the transfer of the scheme to Elmhurst. Affected NHER scheme customers will also have been written to by Elmhurst who have reassured customers that it is business as usual, with no disruption or charge to day–to-day operations.
