Chris’ Top 3 Career Highlights
- Starting a 5* Business
I always had this burning desire to one day run my own business. The challenges have been very difficult, but the benefits it provides have been fantastic. My business style is all about providing a high-quality service every time, demonstrated by the 250+ 5-star reviews we now have on Google. These reviews are a great source of confidence for me and my clients – it’s satisfying to see the hard work is paying off. - Focus on Diversity
After seeing lower levels of diversity within the profession, I said to myself, “When I get the opportunity, I’d like to take some positive action in this space.” I have since set up the Moran-Amaral Foundation in support of surveyors from under-represented backgrounds and, subsequently, been invited to speak at the RICS Women in Surveying event to promote allyship within the profession. - Building a Network
When you find yourself working in an industry you completely love, it’s amazing how you can connect so deeply with a community. I’ve made some lifelong friends, from people I studied surveying with at Sava to the surveyors I’ve met along the way, the mentors I’ve had throughout my career and now my own mentees. It can be such a friendly and supportive industry.
How does it feel to be a finalist in the RICS Matrics Surveyor Awards 2024?
It’s a privilege to be recognised by RICS alongside a group of such talented residential surveyors. I try to bring a balance of tradition and innovation to the profession – it’s great to see this being acknowledged.
What’s your favourite thing about being a surveyor?
I find the work mentally challenging and rewarding, and it’s a comfortable mix of physical and non-physical work, so you get a bit of both worlds. It can really test the brain!
The winner of the residential property category of the RICS Matrics Surveyor Awards 2024 will be announced at the ceremony on 15th November. Find out more about becoming a residential surveyor through the industry-recognised Sava Diploma in Residential Surveying and Valuation.
