Last week (22-23rd), Sava exhibited at HOMES UK and Unlock Net Zero Live 2023, the largest free-to-attend conference and exhibition of its kind. The two-day event was held at the Excel, London, which played host to 150+ exhibitors spanning the housing sector.

In addition to the exhibitors, there were over 275 speakers who discussed the industry’s most pressing issues. Over the course of the event, the speakers were spread across six stages, covering damp and mould, retrofitting, fuel poverty and the skills and housing shortages.

Event insight

After the efforts of exhibitors to prepare their stands the day before, the doors opened to all Wednesday morning. The first day saw a whole host of exciting conversations, among the standouts were:

Time is running out: how are we going to deliver net zero in the UK– concerned with what more needs to be done by policy-makers, politicians and industry to ensure the necessary measures are implemented to deliver net zero.

Supporting tenants through the cost of living crisis – a poignant exploration of practical examples to tackle poverty issues.

The second day gave way to another round of thought-provoking debates, including:

Healthier outcomes: reducing carbon whilst tackling damp and mould – which explored retrofitting homes and the holistic approach required to deliver energy savings without increasing the risk of mould.

Making regeneration work for thriving communities – an important lesson on how to design sustainable developments, emphasising the need to build not just homes but multi-purpose places for people to live.

The event concluded at the Unlock Net Zero Live Stage with the announcement of their Climate Champions’ Power List, which Sava’s Dr Lisa Blake helped to judge. The list, a yearly publication recognising and celebrating individual contribution to climate action in the built environment, thanked 15 winners for their efforts.

As always, it was a joy to speak to faces new and old at HOMES UK and Unlock Net Zero Live. While Sava are back exhibiting at the Excel next week for CABE’s Built Environment LIVE Technical Conference, where Hilary Grayson, Director of Surveying Services will be joining one of the event’s expert panels.
